Long Island Pickup Truck Driver Charged With Dwai After Crashing Into Police Vehicle

A pickup truck driver was allegedly under the influence of drugs when he struck a police cruiser on Long Island, sending an officer to the hospital, police said.

Suffolk County resident Robert Haff, Jr., of Oakdale, was driving a 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 truck north on Nicolls Road approximately a half-mile north of the Long Island Expressway in Holtsville at approximately 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4, when he rear-ended a marked police vehicle.

The officer was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and Half was arrested for allegedly driving while impaired by drugs, and his truck was impounded for a safety check.

Haff, 40, was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and criminal possession of a controlled substance. 

He was held overnight and scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Central Islip on Wednesday, Feb.5.
